The Basics
Building a mafia empire is all about working your way through the ranks, earning cash, and showing who's boss. In order to do so effectively, you want to build production buildings and casinos, and while they're earning you the money for heavy weaponry, fight other mobsters to establish who's the Don Corleone of the neighborhood.
Your Turf
Your turf is your own place in the big Sin City. This is where you make your money, produce your product, and keep it all safely locked up.
The main source of income in Mafia Wars 2 is the casinos. After building a casino, it will automatically generate money over a certain amount of time.
Another way of generating income is through products and workers. By producing goods in production buildings you can hire workers to do a variety of jobs for you. These workers then, like casinos, will generate money over a certain amount of time. When a worker has done its job it will go back to sleep, and you can choose to let it do the same job or a different one. This gives you some flexibility if you need some quick cash.
Tip: If you have multiple workers, it is best to give one a longer lasting job, making you more money, and the others shorter jobs, so that if you are in quick need for cash you can use one of the workers to make you a quick buck.
When running a mafia empire it is inevitable that you will make some enemies. For that reason, it's a good idea to protect your belongings! By building a bank and a warehouse, you can keep a certain amount of products and money safe from other players robbing you and your turf. Make sure you keep an eye on the capacity of these buildings and upgrade them when possible, as they will only protect as much as their capacity.
Energy, like in most Facebook games, replenishes itself over time. But waiting for your energy to recharge can be quite a tedious time-waster. By placing an energy station on your turf, extra energy will be generated for you over time.
If you want to expand your turf, you need to use the street cred you are gifted by your friends, or that you earn by defeating bosses in the missions.
Missions
To proceed through the storyline of the game, and make your way to the top of the Sin City crime scene, you have to complete missions. There are a variety of main and side missions you can do, in whatever order that you like.

Missions
To proceed through the storyline of the game, and make your way to the top of the Sin City crime scene, you have to complete missions. There are a variety of main and side missions you can do, in whatever order that you like.
Tip: From the moment that you unlock Granite Square, you will get the Mission manager. This will let you order the mission icons however you want, so that it's easier to keep an eye on the status of your most important missions.
When visiting the different parts of Sin City for your missions, there are a few icons to keep an eye out for. The black icon with the yellow exclamation mark shows you a point of interest for a mission you're currently playing. A yellow icon with a black exclamation mark shows a character that has a new mission for you. Red icons with skulls in them indicate characters that you can fight to earn money and experience.
You can collect valuables from most other characters and buildings without fighting. Pedestrians can be mugged, trash cans can be looted and buildings can be robbed, costing you nothing more than a little energy.
If you're feeling a little blue and don't quite feel up to mugging an old lady to satisfy your boss' lust for money, you can visit one of a couple fight arenas to blow off some steam. In the fight arena, you can find other players walking around, and you can challenge them to a fight. If you win, you can visit their turf by clicking on them, and rob their buildings.
Tip: If you just click on the fight area icon you will be taken to the fight arena you've visited last. To visit other, higher level arenas, select them on the map once you've unlocked them.
When you're in another player's turf after defeating them, you will first need to defeat them once more on their own turf; unless another player has already robbed your victim. After that, just click on any of the buildings or workers to attempt to rob them. In the bottom corner of the screen, a heat meter indicates how difficult it is to rob that player; this heat meter goes up with every action taken against the player, so if he's already almost fully robbed, it will be much more difficult to rob him even more.
Tip: You will often find that your victim has already been (partially) robbed, as there are many players in the game at the same time. As long as a building is not yet fully robbed, you can still try to rob it more yourself.
Fighting: Statistics
Whether you're out doing missions, or just picking fights in the arena, if you want to be top dog you better bring the right equipment. In the market place you can buy weapons and armor, which will improve your chances in battle. Choosing which armor and weapons to take can be a matter of personal preference, as each item has different statistics. It is not simply a matter of having the highest attack and defensive stats, but the secondary stats are also of great importance.
These secondary statistics not only determine how high a chance you have of landing critical hits or dodging them (glancing blows), but are also somewhat reminiscent of rock-paper-scissors; having a higher rating on one of them will give you a clear advantage over a player that has a higher rating on a different one.
Other than these advantages over one another, here's what sets these statistics apart:
- Critical rating increases the chances of getting a critical hit (more damage)
- Punch rating decreases the chances of your opponent getting a glancing blow (less damage)
- Stealth rating increases the chances of you getting a glancing blow (less damage)
Of course you never know exactly which weapon someone is holding, so it is always best to try and balance your weapons and armor so that these stats are balanced.
Tip: If you're having trouble defeating an enemy, you can try and figure out which weapon they are using by comparing the sprite with the images in the market place. This way you can select the best gear for that specific situation.
Tip: Should you be unfortunate enough to die in battle, you can quickly heal yourself by clicking on your health bar. Regardless of how much health you have left, the costs for healing will always be two cash per health you have. For instance, if you have 20 health, healing will always cost you 40 cash.
Fighting: Power Ups
You can also use power-ups to give yourself a better fighting chance. Power ups are items that can be activated at any time, but are limited in use (by amount of time or amount of uses). There are a variety of power ups, giving you better attack, better defense, more income, etc. Power ups can be selected and activated by clicking on the power up icons on the right side of your screen.
